Wa'ahila Shape: Percent Cover of Megathyrus maximus and Senna surattensis and its relation to Elevation Abstract
Percent cover of both Megathyrus maximus and Senna surattensis is estimated using quadrats upon 11 separate plots along Wa'ahila Ridge. Percent cover of these two plant species were in comparison to the measured height using a GPS DEVICE, in each plot. A p-value more than. 005 for every indicates a lack of significance between elevation and percent cover. A correlation analysis utilized to determine there is no value between the elevation and percent cover as M. maximus had a p-value of. 873 and T. surattensis had a p-value of. 380. Test size along with many other environmental factors may have enjoyed a part in the values that have been calculated and the lack of relevance thereof.
Megathyrus maximus is a great invasive types of grass introduced to Hawai'i inside the early 1900's (Ripperton, 1933). Today it is now a dominating species that grows abundantly throughout Hawai'i. Another unpleasant species, Senna surattensis, described in Hawai'i as Kolomano, is a alternatively widespread in the islands too. It is a woods with yellow-colored flowers and was actually introduced in 1871. Wa'ahila ridge, close to the University of Hawai'i campus, has been a location of interest and data continues to be collected on various biotic and abiotic factors for several years. After visiting the ridge many times, it is obvious that Meters. maximus is among the most dominant species through the 11 plots that work in the ridge. Measurements and info were collected by almost all Biology Lab 265 classes to determine various factors on the ridge which includes percent cover of plants, density of vegetation, dispersion of plants, etc . After initial observations of the ridge and the environment, it came out that rainfall generally increased with elevation. With this in mind this seemed just reasonable...
