The Census of Inhabitants 2010 was the fifth census carried out in Singapore seeing that Independence as well as the fourteenth inside the series of census taking in Singapore. The census is the most comprehensive source of information about population and households. It provides benchmark info for all demographic, economic and social statistics. The Census 2010 followed a register-based approach, similar to the Census of Population 2k. Basic population count and characteristics had been compiled via administrative resources. More detailed information concerning demographic, education, economic, transfer, household and housing features were obtained from a sample enumeration of about 2 hundred, 000 homeowners. As in the conduct of the Census 2150, a tri-modal collection strategy comprising Internet, Computer-Assisted Phone Interviewing (CATI) and face-toface interviews was adopted to facilitate info collection intended for the homeowners in the census sample. The Census 2010 went paperless during the face-to-face interviews, with the use of Ultra-Mobile Personal Computers (UMPCs) to assist data collection. This info collection technique brought about cost savings in manpower, data protection in the field, as well as improvements in quality and timeliness of information. This Advance Census Launch analyses the main element trends in population size, growth, market profile and broad geographic distribution of the Singapore human population as for end-June 2010, compiled by multiple management sources. The report includes detailed record tables to allow more extensive study by users in addition to a glossary of census principles and definitions. More tables and studies based on the sample enumeration will be published progressively within a series of Statistical Releases on specific matters. I would like to thank all who have, in a single way or another, contributed to the achievements of this project. My deep appreciation is usually extended to any or all participating homeowners who had provided their total support to the Census 2010. The efforts of many federal government ministries and statutory planks, which offered pertinent details for the Census 2010, are gratefully acknowledged.
